I need to get to the Midtown Global Market more often. Wandering through the Market this morning, I was surprised to discover a new enterprise called
Kitchen at the Market, an open kitchen in the heart of the market that is being run by 11 local chefs who decided to team up and share a commercial cooking facility. I stopped by just as Molly Herrmann, the Tastebud Tart, "a chick with an unbridled passion for food,"
www.tastebudtart.com was whipping up her weekly takeout menu (this week, the offerings include Fettuccine with Sweet Pea and Mint Sauce $10; Sesame Orange Pork Chops with Hoisin Roasted Cauli-flower and Brown Rice $12: and a boxed lunch of House-made Hummus Veggie Wrap (chicken optional), Cumin Raisin Quinoa and Fresh Baked Goodie, $10.)
You might recognize some of the names behind this project -
Royal Dahlstrom, whose resume includes the Napa Valley Grille and the fondly remembered La Toscana; Petrina Walters, of
Asase Yaa, a wonderful little Ghanaian eatery that lives on as a catering company, and Jenny Breen of
Good Life Catering (and, eons ago, the late Good Life Cafe.) For the complete list of participating chefs, click
